FC 27 will officially launch on September 25th. Based on the current beta gameplay, EA has reduced the degree of AI automation in several details, making player judgment and action more important.
Next, IGGM.com will guide you through the noteworthy changes in defense, passing, positioning, and offensive AI in FC 27.
It should be noted that the current test is still an early beta version, and some gameplay mechanics may continue to be adjusted before the official release. Therefore, the following content is more suitable for understanding the general direction of EA FC 27 future development.

Defensive AI
Previously, when using Teammate Contain, AI players would stick very close to each other. In FIFA 27, this mechanism has been significantly weakened. Based on beta gameplay footage, when using teammates for pressure or defense, AI players, who might have closely followed the opponent last year, now maintain a greater distance.
EA FC 27 has also removed Auto Tackle. Previously, when an AI player approached the ball carrier, they could automatically regain possession even without conscious control. Now, if you’ve successfully closed in, you must manually switch to that defender and perform the tackle.
However, this doesn’t mean AI players in FUT 27 won’t automatically defend. If an opponent directly collides with your defender, you can still get the ball; if a pass goes directly to their feet, they will still intercept. But if the ball merely passes by and you haven’t selected that player, they won’t automatically reach out to steal it.
Therefore, proper defensive positioning, timing of player interceptions, and manual tackles become more crucial. FC 27 is making defense rely more heavily on player judgment and skill. Simultaneously, these gameplay changes will make player ratings and playstyles more important.
The actual defensive performance of different players will significantly affect the feel of the controls. If you already have your desired players, having enough coins will give you greater flexibility in the transfer market.
However, accumulating in-game coins is quite difficult in the early stages of the game, so you can buy FC 27 coins in advance; we offer competitive prices to help you quickly acquire the resources you need.
Offensive AI
The offensive AI is indeed smarter than last year. The most obvious change is that players are more willing to actively make runs. Previously, many players wouldn’t make any threatening moves unless you actively controlled or triggered a run. However, in FC 27, even if you’re just observing with the ball, they’ll actively look for space and sometimes even run curved routes on their own.
IGGM.com believes this change is positive, especially since AI players are quicker to recognize openings and run towards them after other attackers draw away defenders. This means you don’t need to rely on L1 to create runs every time, making offense much more natural and easier to execute consecutive combination plays.
Passing
Passing is also a significant change in FIFA 27, especially Through Ball. Previously, Through Ball had strong assistance; as long as you aimed toward your teammates, the system would often correct the trajectory and deliver the ball to a relatively reasonable position.
EA FC 27 has reduced this assistance. If your aim isn’t accurate, the ball might go directly to the wrong position. The same applies to Lob Through Ball; the system’s correction is significantly weaker, and now you need to control the direction more accurately most of the time.
Therefore, when first adapting to FUT 27, IGGM.com recommends focusing on keeping the left stick aimed at the receiving player and avoiding overly difficult through balls. Accommodate the angle once you’re familiar with the new Through Ball. Ultimately, EA hasn’t ruined Through Ball; they’ve made it more manual and requires more player judgment.
The changes to Dink Pass are equally noticeable. Whether it’s a double-tap triangle pass or a double-tap X pass, you now rely more on your control of direction and power.
You can no longer rely on the system to automatically deliver the ball to the target player, especially when sending a dink pass from near the byline into the penalty area. A slight deviation of the left stick can completely alter the ball’s trajectory.
Attacking Movement
Triggered Curved Run
FC 27 newly added Triggered Curved Run is currently one of the more noteworthy offensive mechanics in the game. On PlayStation, it’s L1 + R1, and on Xbox, it’s LB + RB. After triggering, the player doesn’t simply run in a straight line but performs a curved run based on the ball’s position, the trigger point, and the space on the field.
It might take a little getting used to at first, as it doesn’t follow a fixed running route. But as you play more matches, you’ll gradually understand how players move in different positions. Especially in Final Third, this mechanic can be used to create new attacking spaces, helping you win more matches and earn FIFA coins.
Pass and Follow
Another new mechanic in FIFA 27 is Pass and Follow. On PlayStation, it’s L1 + R1 + X, and on Xbox, it’s LB + RB + A. Unlike a typical one-two pass, Pass and Follow doesn’t just have the player run forward immediately after passing; instead, it allows the player to perform a Curved Run after the pass before entering space.
This mechanic is particularly interesting in the box. You can have the player run from the outside after passing, or you can have them enter space along the sideline. If you’re familiar with Combination Play and Space Exploitation, Pass and Follow will give you a significant advantage.
Through research and testing in beta, it’s clear that FC 27 is reducing its reliance on AI, making player judgment and skill more important. At the same time, a player’s rating and playstyle will directly affect their actual performance, which IGGM.com believes makes team building more interesting.
